Greg Norman Committs to Play in 70th Senior PGA Championship Print E-mail

70th Senior PGA ChampionshipTwo-time British Open Champion Greg Norman heads 25 major champions who have committed to compete in the 70th Senior PGA Championship, which makes its first appearance, May 18-24, at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio.

Overall, the 25 major champions in the 156-player field have combined to win 48 majors between 1963 and 1998. The field at Canterbury Golf Club also features players representing 30 states and 14 countries, and includes 13 Ryder Cup Captains along with 10 World Golf Hall of Fame members.

William Powell Named 2009 PGA Distinguished Service Award Winner Print E-mail

PGA of AmericaWilliam J. (Bill) Powell of East Canton, Ohio, who overcame racial barriers to become the only African-American to design, build, own and operate a golf course while pioneering diversity in the game, has been named the recipient of the 2009 PGA Distinguished Service Award.

Powell, 92, and a PGA Life Member, will be honored in conjunction with the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. The award presentation will be conducted Aug. 12, in downtown Minneapolis. The PGA Distinguished Service Award is the Association's highest annual honor.

Jack Nicklaus to Receive GCAA Lifetime Achievement Award Print E-mail

Jack Nicklaus has been named recipient of the Golf Coaches Assciation of America Lifetime Achievement Award. Nicklaus, who will become the fourth Lifetime Achievement honoree by the GCAA, will receive the award at the GCAA Hall of Fame Reception and Awards Banquet Monday, Jan. 26, at the Doubletree Hotel at the entrance to Universal Studios in Orlando, Fla.

“I have always embraced and respected collegiate golf for its purity and competitiveness,” Nicklaus said. “My college experience was something I still cherish to this day. So to be recognized by college coaches across America is a very special and humbling honor for me.”

Longaberger Golf Club Voted Ohio's Favorite Golf Course in Poll Print E-mail

Longaberger Golf Club NASHPORT, Ohio - A recent Ohio's Golf Magazine poll asked readers and area residents to pick their favorite golf course in the Buckeye State and in resounding fashion Longaberger Golf Club led the way.

The poll asked readers to "pick your favorite Ohio golf course" from a list that included 15 of the state's best public access golf courses. Longaberger commanded 38 percent of the more than 1,200 votes, leaving 62 percent to be shared by the other 14 courses (an average of 4.5 percent per course).
