Apple Valley Golf Club

Despite any disaster of our own making that befalls us on the course, most golfers can’t wait to get out and tee it up again. And you know what they say about “an apple a day”? Combine that desire for redemption, a love of the game and the benefits o just getting away from the city stress and playing, and you’ve hit on the success story of Apple Valley Golf Club.

This delightful family-owned-and-operated golf sanctuary is located in the rolling hills and lush woodlands of Knox County, just east of Mt. Vernon, about an hour’s drive from the I-270 loop in Columbus, less than 90 minutes from the Akron-Canton area and within two hours of suburban Cleveland. The inspiring scenery at Apple Valley is only surpassed by the intriguing mix of shots you’ll face from the Glenn Robinson/Bill Newcomb design.

Enjoy the view of the elevated tee of the first hole and take advantage of the immaculately manicured bluegrass-bentgrass fairways to score well on the wide open early holes, because things get exciting when you reach the short par-3 fifth. Considered Apple Valley’s signature hole, #5 is deceptively short, just 140-yards from the tips, but requires a full carry over one of the many lakes found on the course to a green guarded by bunkers, barnstones and majestic pines. Unlike many newer course designs with similar-length par-3s, the four at Apple Valley will likely send you to the bag for different clubs off each tee. In general, the greens are gently sloped and lightning fast. And while most are guarded by a variety of different sized and shaped bunkers, most of the greens are also open in the front to allow for bump-and-run opportunities.

You’re sure to notice the beautiful views from the full-service clubhouse and pro shop that was added in 2002, increasing Apple Valley’s ability to host all sizes of outings, receptions and other entertainment events. Brothers Mark, Pat and Pete Mickley treat Apple Valley like their own home, and front yard, because it is. Come sample their homespun hospitality at Apple Valley.
